I am sure you have heard this saying numerous times in the past but when talking about online advertising it really is a key aspect for getting higher traffic to your website.
One of the most frequent requests we get here at Designer Websites is the request to get a website to the top of Google. This is all very fine and well but a basic understanding of what Google is and does will help you to understand why the saying content is king is especially true when it comes to promoting your website.
An inside look at Google.
I would like to ask you a question… why has Google become such a household name around the world? Think about it for a minute…
Is it not because you know that whenever you need to find information online you know that Google is generally going to provide you the information you were searching for?
Now do you think Google would be where it is today if it was not providing relevant content to us as website readers? The obvious answer is no! So Google as a business depends on being a provider of highly relevant information to its searchers.
Therefore Google has to ensure that it has the website ranking systems and procedures in place that give you, the searcher, the information you are looking for. And a key aspect of this is the content theme of a website.
So what does that mean to me?
The way Google determines relevant content to a search query is a fairly complex procedure, however the websites that are focused on a specific content theme and have a lot of content around that theme are generally going to be the websites that rank better.
I am over simplifying Google’s search procedure to illustrate a point but basically the websites with the most content and most relevant content to a searchers query will be displayed more often on the Google search page than a website that has little content.
Therefore to get more share of the search engine pie you must build more content on your website and the best way of doing this as I always say to clients is to build a blog into your website.
However you then need to be committed to that blog providing relevant and interesting information around your business and or passion. People will find this interesting and word of mouth will work for you plus the search engines will also reward you with better rankings.
