Track Your Bounce Rate with Google Analytics

Be seen.jpgAdding Google Analytics to your website can vastly improve your search engine optimisation (SEO) activities by providing you with detailed information about your visitor's behaviour.

One parameter that businesses love to focus on is the bounce rate. This is when users visit your website and leave immediately. A high bounce rate may indicate that your website isn't engaging your visitors.

Google provides really useful information about Google Analytics to help small businesses and here's what the company has to say on the Google Help page:

"If you find that a campaign is bringing in lots of users, but a lot of them are leaving after viewing only one page (bouncing) or viewing a number of pages but not converting, you may have a problem with the landing page associated with that campaign, or with the pages linked from the landing page.... The messaging or content of the landing page and linked pages may not be consistent with your campaign."

Now, your website could have a high bounce rate for a few reasons, but often it's because your website content isn't engaging. For whatever reason, users are taking a quick glance at your information and going elsewhere. If this is the case, then you should either redesign your website or write new content.

Another possibility is that your marketing efforts aren't attracting members of your target audience. Instead, random visitors are visiting your website and you have nothing to offer them. If this is the case, then you should re-evaluate your marketing efforts. What exactly are you saying on social media and in your emails that's drawing the wrong crowd?

Google Analytics can help businesses ask themselves the right questions to improve their website performance.
