The Origin of Your Backlinks and Search Engine Optimisation

Oct 12, 2018 by kidd

It's well-known that backlinks play an important role in search engine optimisation. After you optimise all of your on-page elements, you can differentiate your campaign by getting links from quality sites.

IP diversity

The thing about backlinks is that they can vary immensely in terms of their impact on your site ranking. They can have a net positive or negative effect depending on multiple factors.

One of those factors is IP diversity. Google wants to see that your backlinks come from different sites. According to this Forbes article, it's even better if those sites are from all around the world:

"Google wants to see global authority. Not just links coming back from the same sites. When there's global IP diversity, it knows that the underlying content is good. Thus, it's more relevant. So, focus on that content and you'll solicit a diverse set of linking. Google is also concerned about link velocity. How fast or slow are the links coming in? Are they speeding up from week to week or slowing down?"

Let's say you have a recipe website. If blogs and social media users from all around the world link to your recipes, then it probably means the content is good. That's what Google thinks, anyway, and its algorithm reflects that. oie_b4rAzqJI4QDN.jpg

Quality

Aside from IP diversity, Google also wants to see that your backlinks come from authority sites. If they do, then they'll have a significant impact on your site ranking. Otherwise, they probably won't matter as much.

What you definitely can't do is buy backlinks solely for the purpose of SEO. If you get caught, you'll receive a site penalty that will negate any and all progress you made.

The path to quality backlinks is a devotion to content creation. Just focus on the quality of your site and they'll come in over time.
