What's Next After Setting Up Your SEO Campaign?

An SEO campaign is never really finished, just like a competitor is never satisfied with his performance. There's always room for improvement, but if you just finished setting up your SEO campaign, then the question is: "What else is there left to do?"

We're going to assume that you've already done the following: 

  • Optimised your title tags and meta descriptions
  • Gotten a mobile-friendly design (extra points if it's mobile-first)
  • Improved your site's load time
  • Sorted out your domain names

Those points alone require a lot of planning, but there's still more to do afterwards. Our suggestion is to turn your focus to your link building campaign. 

This Entrepreneur article explains why inbound links can have such a big impact on your SEO: 

"Aside from on-site optimisation and content marketing, the most important element of your strategy is your link building campaign -- otherwise known as off-site optimisation. The quality and quantity of links you have pointing to your domain determines your overall authority, which in turn determines where you rank for various search queries."

Google doesn't just look at how many inbound links your site has, it also looks at the quality of the sites that link to yours. This can be a blessing or a curse. 

If the New Zealand Herald or Stuff include a link to your site, then it can provide a small boost for your SEO. These are some well-known, respected publications. The thought process is that if they link to your site, it speaks to your own credibility and authority. 

If you try spamming your links all over the Internet, however, then this strategy will actually hurt you. Now you have a bunch of low-quality sites associated with yours, and that relationship can really hurt your brand and ranking.
